Audience
This course is designed for people with little or no holster experience that want to learn the basics of a safe holster draw from a strong-side open carry position.
Course Description
This class will prepare you to present your firearm from the holster, and re-holster safely. Your instructor will guide you through your body’s natural reactions to a threat, and how you can leverage those effects.
In this course you begin to build a foundation for proper Defensive Shooting Fundamentals. We’ll introduce Safety as a Concept, refine, and improve target focused sight picture, flash site picture, kinesthetic alignment to the target, defensive accuracy, and scanning the environment.
Prerequisites
Handgun II or Best Shot Instructor recommendation

- Body’s Natural Reaction Stress (threat)
- Introduction of the “UP” Command
- Understand Stance, Grip, Sight Alignment, Site Picture, and Trigger press.
- Sight Validation – Marksmanship
- Safety As a Concept – Safety, Comfort, Competence
- Defensive Accuracy
- Understanding Kinesthetic Alignment
- Understanding Scanning the Environment
- Presentation from the Holster
What to Bring
Firearm and ammunition
- Handgun (that you intend to carry) with 3 double stack or 5 single stack magazines
- 25 rounds of quality handgun ammunition
Equipment
- Outside the Waistband (OWB) Holster with appropriate gun belt

- Holster must retain its shape without the handgun in the holster (e.g. Kydex)
- Holster should be worn on strong side in 3 o’clock position
- Magazine pouches
- Ear & eye protection, Baseball cap, Range-appropriate clothing (closed toe shoes, high-collared shirt)

Please remember that weapons for class or to be fired on our range are to be brought in unloaded and in a case.
