Audience
This course is designed for people wishing to improve their defensive shooting with an emphasis on drawing from a concealed holster.
Course Description
The USCCA’s Defensive Pistol Program (DPP) is a comprehensive course designed to help participants develop essential defensive shooting skills using live-fire and dry-fire training. The program is broken into six parts, each progressively building on the last to ensure the best results for individual students. These six parts include classroom-based learning and live-fire training to fully integrate objective and performance-based training methods. By using motor learning and skill acquisition science, DPP ensures participants are equipped with the knowledge and practical experience needed for effective pistol use in a defensive context.
Prerequisites
Basic Handgun Gun 2, CCDW or Best Shot Instructor approval
Objectives
- Review the fundamentals of defensive marksmanship
- Drawing from the concealed holster
- Understanding the balance of speed and precision
- Understanding defensive response
- How to properly manage common malfunctions and single-handed shooting
What to Bring
Firearm and ammunition
- semi-auto pistol
- 800-1,000 rounds of ammo
Equipment
- Concealed holster
- Holster must retain its shape with the pistol removed (i.e. Kydex)
- Outside the waistband (OWB), Inside the waistband (IWB) or appendix (AIWB)) are allowed
- Serpa holster are NOT allowed
- at least 2 magazines and a magazine molder
- Strong belt
- Cover garment
- Eye and hearing protection (preferably electronic to hear range instruction)

- Student may be able to reschedule to a future session with 24 hours notice.
